Cradle and Crayon is a truly exclusive place where you will not find your run of the mill merchandise. From the moment you enter the store, you are pleasantly surprised by the store’s grandeur and the wonderful collection of merchandise. You can find almost anything here from tummy balms to jackets for dad and even clothes for the family pet. Cradle and Crayon was conceived and is now managed by a husband and wife team, Kamran Akhtar and Stella Guillen. Kamran was born in Pakistan and Stella is from Peru. Together they have created a place that caters where parents can come and relax, find items not found any place else, and not worry about paying a hefty price either. The merchandise caters to parents with new born children right through the age of six. Sonya Jewelry & Fabrics is a chain of three stores
in the Northern Virginia area. Owned by Tasneem Alam,
Sonya Jewelry has been in business for almost 18 years.
The stores offer a wide range of gold, diamond, and
silver jewelry, as well as a variety of saris and shalwar
kameez (the ethnic Pakistani dress).
Named after her daughter, Tasneem's Sonya Jewelry venture is an impressive tale of dedication, perseverence, and a committment to high quality products. We met with Tasneem to learn about how she has managed to make this business such a success, and of course, to bring you a sneak peek into the fabulous, tempting collection that she has on display.

The McLean Furniture Gallery is a retail center providing
home and office decor and interior design solutions.
The showroom near Tysons Corner VA, was custom designed
by Leo A. Daly (renowned architects best known for Reagan
National Airport in DC, the World War II Memorial, and
the Sydney Opera House in Melbourne). The Gallery offers
a diverse, yet carefully selected assortment of furniture,
accent pieces, and accessories ranging from mahagony
woods from Baker and Henredon, to inlaid Italian marble
from Francesco Molon, to Swarofski crystal chandeliers
from Italy. Founded in 1984 by Tehmina Khan, in partnership
with her late husband Imran Khan, the Gallery is a prime
example of how to establish a mainstream retail business
that is not limited in any way, shape, or form to any
particular ethnicity, especially when you consider that
the founders were brand new to the country.

DaajWari is a new label presented by Fauzia Bokhari,
who has been designing formal and bridal wear for her
clients on special orders for the last three years.
Just before Eid, the Daajwari collection was presented
at Cafe Picasso in Lahore.
The unique characteristic of this collection is a wide
range of fabric with extremely delicate and tasteful
embroidery, which is rarely seen. Another rare quality
is that none of Fauzia's designs are repeated, ever!

a tour of the US where he choreographed a series of
fashion shows for Developments in Literacy (DIL)'s fundraising
campaign. We have brought you photographs of the DC

Recently, Salma of Goal Boutique in Lahore, Pakistan
visited the US and held several dress shows. The Saturday
Post caught up with her at one of her dress exhibitions
held in Ashburn, Virginia.
Goal boutique is affiliated with the famous Cynosure
Boutique in Liberty Market, Lahore. The boutiques are
a family run business. Cynosure, focusing on party wear,
is run by Salma's brother while Goal offers bridal wear
and is co-managed by Salma and her sister, Goal, who
is the designer and the boutique is named after her.
