| The
Christian Benevolent Society helping to erradicate hepatitis
from rural Pakistan |
Hepatitis is a
disease which attacks the liver, in other words, it
causes the inflammation of the liver. There are many
factors that can cause hepatitis; viruses, environmental
toxins, alcohol, exposure to chemicals, transmission
through blood transfusions, sexual contact, saliva
and improper hand washing to name a few.
Currently
there are about seven known hepatitis forms, and scientists
believe there are still many more yet to be discovered.
As one may expect, it is most commonly seen in third
world countries. This ‘silent killer’
is a well known and common threat to the Pakistani
population. The poorest villages suffer the most as
many people go undetected largely due to the lack
of medical facilities available to them. There is
a great need to spread awareness among the rural areas
of Pakistan; and we are honored to say that there
is one society who is working towards treating and
eliminating hepatitis among the residents of the poorest
villages in Pakistan.
The Christian
Benevolent Society is taking this disease head on,
they comprise of health related professionals that
travel from village to village providing treatment
and awareness to the people living in the rural areas
of Pakistan. Here is a look at the society working
at the Kalo Dai village in Gojra.

The second most
important objective of this society is to help eliminate
poverty. They are working on training these residents
on how they can become self-sufficient and positively
contributing citizens. The society is a non-profit
organization and is not financially supported by any
other organization.
We congratulate
the Christian Benevolent Society on the work they
have done and are continuing to do, and hope our readers
and the Government of Pakistan can provide some help
in the form of funds and medicines to help eradicate
and prevent this disease.
