Pakistani Americans Reach Out to their Community to Spread Awareness

Dublin, CA – October 3, 2010 – Buddies without borders, a group kicked off by some concerned Pakistanis, has taken the initiative to spread awareness about the catastrophic floods in Pakistan. Beginning with the monsoon rains in July 2010, the recent Pakistan floods have already claimed over two thousand lives and over a million homes have been destroyed. According to the latest USAID statistics the number of affected people has reached nearly 17.2 million, out of which there are estimated two million children.

BWB has taken the initiative to spread awareness about the massive tragedy through the collective power of children. “Since children are not motivated by culture, race, religion or language their motivation transcends all boundaries and they can reach out to one another much more effectively,” said Nabeela Khan a concerned mom who is spearheading the group.

The objective of the initiative is to mobilize the elementary, middle and high school children of Pakistani dissent and to create awareness within their respective schools through education and other fund raising events for the affected children. The initiative will include the following measures:
· Training collateral - The first step is to train the Pakistani American community on how to create awareness in schools. Training collateral includes, brochures and Video DVD containing images of the disaster along with a music video featuring local Pakistani American children.

· Training workshop - Children will be engaged in a workshop where they will get hands on training on how to create awareness and raise funds specific to the cause within their schools. From setting up a bake sale to organizing benefit events such as concerts, will be the focus of the effort.

· Donation direction – Children will be provided with the names and contacts of recommended not-for-profit organizations that are actively engaged in the rescue and rehabilitation effort of the affected children.
The resource kit, which includes all the collateral, will be available for free download on the facebook group page after the training session. There are approximately two hundred families registered for the training session. “We are so excited and look forward to partnering with other community members,” said Nabeela Khan.
