NUPSA (National Union of Pakistani Students and Alumni)
Discuss Blasphemy Law and Extremism in Pakistan with
Miss Shehrbano Taseer

NUPSA executives held their first public event, with the help of The Imperial College of London. The guest speaker of the event was Miss Shehrbano Taseer, a renowned journalist and the daughter of slain governor of Punjab Mr. Salman Taseer. The topic of the oration delivered by Miss Taseer was Blasphemy Law and Extremism in Pakistan. The event was attended by dignitaries such as Mr. Durrani the deputy High Commissioner for Pakistan.

In her address to the attendants of the event she stated how her father’s assassination had led to one of the greatest tribulations in Pakistan. In the Question and Answer session she answered numerous question put forward by the cliques at the event with regards to Pakistan’s current socio-political situation. NUPSA president expressed that these kinds of events would increase consciousness among the masses and allow them to make informed decision.

When asked what Miss Taseer’s views were in relation to her role in the struggle against extremism she stated ‘we buried a man, not the courage he inspired in others- let us keep fighting for a progressive Pakistan’. NUPSA thanks Miss Taseer for gracing us with her presence, and hope that she continues to inspire others for coming years. NUPSA plans on holding more events of such kind in the future.
