Themed “A Curious Mind”, Nida Azwer endeavoured
to take the audience from one spectrum of creativity
to another. This being her first solo show, Nida looked
to play with a variety of techniques and designing including
hand-craft, bead-work and screen printing. Her central
idea behind this was to blur the distinction between
design, art and craft and leave the viewer with a unique
viewing and fashion experience.
Speaking about the event, Nida has said, “I am
grateful for the having had the opportunity to stage
my own show – I enjoyed it thoroughly and I am
overwhelmed by the number of people who came, saw and
appreciated my work!”
For her Prêt a Porter wear, this Lux Style Award
nominated designer showcased a blend of materials and
textures, including screen printing, pearls, beads and
layering in designs that ranged from playful and adventurous
to bold and mysterious. This line finds inspiration
in Coco Chanel’s words, “The most courageous
act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.”
The Nida Azwer couture line focussed on hand embroidered
detailing with stitches ‘ari’, ‘zardozi’,
‘marrori’, ‘kamdani’, and ‘vasli’.
This line brought to the catwalk that which is contemporary
yet classic and ensembles ranging from understated grace
to glitzy chic.
Headlining the evening was Nida’s bridal line
featuring finely handcrafted creations for both bridal
and wedding wear. Worked with ‘zardozi’
and Swarovski crystals, this line’s inspiration
lies in timeless sophistication and the harmony between
tradition and eternity.
