Zamzama – a street renowned for its trendy dining. Gun Smoke Restaurant, located on street no 10 at Zamzama, broke the chain of recent restaurant ventures in Karachi. Let’s just put it this way, it’s not a restaurant you hear about everyday.
As soon as you enter the eatery, you feel as though you are about to take an exciting journey through the wild wild west. Its authentic western décor and assertive staff, give it an edge over the others, not to mention its sumptuous, savory dishes.
This unusual bistro is fairly small in size. The interior contains dark planks of wood, contemporary wall hangings and pieces of art. The dim lighting and huddled tables enhance the “cowboy feel” and truly bring forth the coziness of the ambience. Clean, shiny floors are also not representative of Gun Smoke; rather they are plagued with peanut shells.
The waiters are in tune with the cowboy “ways” – smartly attired in cowboy hats and suits; they are not typical of the smiling, submissive, waiters you see at standard restaurants. They are instructed to be outright bold and rude! They slam cutlery on your tables. But that’s not all. Every so often, they pay a surprise visit to your table to empty the contents of your peanut bowls, by chucking the shells on the floor and banging the empty bowl back onto the table. A must see scenario!
Dishes range from steaks to gourmet chicken and beef burgers, sandwiches, pastas and ample others. The succulent steaks are bound to conquer anyone’s taste buds. I opted for the chopped steak Tereayaki, priced at Rs. 339. The steak features a marinated chopped fillet, glazed with teriyaki sauce and sprinkled with mozzarella cheese and grilled tomatoes, served with french fries, vegetables and dinner salad bar.
My desert consisted of chocolate mud pie, containing chocolate fudge cake, vanilla and chocolate ice-cream, peanut butter cookie bits and covered in thick chocolate sauce. I really couldn’t care less about how many calories I’d put on.
The menu also offers an assortment of hot and cold beverages. The Bar contains an assortment of non-alcoholic beverages. The fruit margarita is worth a try! A side salad counter also offers a fusion of salads with a wide array of dressings, such as blue cheese, garlic ranch, thousand island, virgin olive oil and flavored vinegar.
Gun Smoke is also fully operational in Lahore. Thumbs up to Kamran Sheikh, the man behind Gun smoke’s unusual décor! The restaurant is truly unique from others on the street. Be sure to book your table in advance – it’s a ride crammed with adventure and surprises! |
